Anaheim Mighty Ducks

With the NHL playoffs set to kick off on Friday Night, the question now aeries who will become the next Stanley Cup champion? The field of 8 teams in the west and 8 teams in the east has now been finalized. With my favorite the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim grabbing 6^th to take on
Calgary who finished 5^th in the west to land them both a first round match up. With two great teams going head to head this could very well be a seven game winner take all advance to the next round series.

With the player to really focus on in this particular series being the mighty ducks goal tender Jean-Sebastien Giguere who according to the
Calgary Sun “was the backbone of the Ducks run to the Stanley Cup final [in 2003].” With Giguere as the starting goalie between the pipes this coming Friday anything is possible for the Ducks maybe even a repeat run to the Stanley Cup finals. Although according to Giguere when he was interviewed by the
Calgary Sun “"It's an honor to be part of the NHL playoffs, it's really hard to get in. I think we should be happy to be there, get some experience for the young guys and hope for the best. Once you're in the playoffs, anything can happen."”As a huge
Anaheim mighty ducks fan I can not wait to see what happens between
Anaheim and
Calgary on Friday night. Now the question is can
Anaheim advance past
Calgary to the second round? My guess is yes but let’s hope that stands true. Although like any true sports fan I would love to see a Stanly Cup Final match up between
Anaheim vs
New Jersey, with
Anaheim taking it in 7 games as payback for beating them in 2003.

New York Rangers Make The Playoffs

After hard work and determination and failing to miss the playoffs for the past seven seasons the
New York rangers clinched a playoff position after beating the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday April 4^th with a 3 to 2 victory that came during a shoot out.

The rangers policy change could possibly have something to do with it because, in “2004 when older players were traded off for youngsters and draft picks. The new salary cap put the payroll in line with the rest of the league and gave
New York a chance to win the old-fashioned way” (Mercury News).

In my opinion only time and luck will tell us how far the rangers make it during this years 2006 NHL playoffs. Who knows maybe
New York will get to finally host Lord Stanley’s cup.

Adventoures Vacations

When going on vacation have you often wanted to take one that is not so ordinary, well now you can wacky travel options are becoming the latest vacation fade. How about going on vacation to Valencia Spain and partaking in the tomato throwing festival. Or maybe if tomato throwing isn’t your thing then how about racing a camel in
Nevada or maybe partying inside a crater in
Hawaii is for you. According to the
Detroit news “these travel experiences are no joke.” But in all reality they are “just the ticket for jaded road-warriors who have "been there, done that" and are seeking attention-grabbing alternatives to spice-up their journeys, not to mention their water-cooler chatter”(Detroit News).

Why not go out their and try an adventurous vacation especially the tomato throwing in
Spain. For me I would love it as someone who hates the typical vacation experience these seem like a lot of fun and a really cool way to impress your friends once you get back with the photos of what you actually did. The one experience that I would love to try would have to be the tomato fighting in
Spain cause who hasn’t ever wanted to throw a tomato.

X-BOX 360

When the Xbox 360 hit the market in December of 2005 just in time for Christmas it became one of the hottest selling items. So hot that the supply was not their to meet the demand because the Microsoft corporation ran into some manufacturing problems. But now those problems seem to be subsiding for the Microsoft Corporation on Tuesday they announced that “it will significantly increase the availability of its Xbox 360 videogame consoles, after production problems that have made the popular game systems difficult to find on store shelves”(seattlepi). Their for now allowing the Microsoft Corporation to “distribute two to three times as many Xbox 360 consoles to retailers each week than it did before.”

In my opinion the Microsoft Corporation did this because they know that the demand for their product would be high their for they wanted to be able to have a low supply to make it in accessible to many. Their for allowing the demand to still be their when the Microsoft corporation was ready to release more of the Xbox 360. All though I do believe that this was the wrong thing for them to do because it will hurt him in the long run with sales because they forced many people to have to wait for the product and now many may not be interested including myself. Their for the Xbox 360 is a product that took the market by storm but may have to beg for consumers money once there is enough of them to finally go around.

Photo galleries there are tones of them all over the web, it seems like today almost anyone who’s, any one has a photo gallery for something. From photo galleries showing you pictures of one’s family to photo galleries of school events to TV show photo galleries. Almost everywhere you look on the web you can find a photo gallery, below you will find a link to 3 photo galleries, their websites and a brief overview of what the photo gallery contains.

Photo Gallery #1 -Ameican Idol This first photo gallery contains photos from the television show American and the March 9^th results show. In this particular photo gallery you see a wide range of pictures covering everything from all the contestants waiting for the results, to a surprise performance from former American Idol contestant Bo Bice. We also find the host Ryan Secreast acting crazy with no only Bo Bice, but also taking his hosting duties seriously. Well we can see the emotion on the faces of the contestants as they wait for the results and the overall emotion of being chosen to move on to the final 12 in the American Idol competition. Photo Gallery #2-Project Runway

For this particular photo gallery it represents the final episode photo gallery for the show project runway on bravo. In this particular photo gallery we only see Chloe’s winning fashions and the looks on the models face’s as they walk down the runway showing off the final pieces for judging. Well also seeing the use of the different colors textures and design’s used to help Chloe win the overall competition.

Photo Gallery #3- 1023 KissFM CardBoard Derby The final photo gallery that I chose to highlight was the 6^th Annual Kissfm Cardboard Derby. In these photos we see many of the different sled designs that where built by individuals only using cardboard and duct tape. Plus we also an array of pictures of these sleds going down the hill trying to make it to the bottom for a trip to
Aruba. In these pictures we also find photos of the Kissfm and River Staff kicking off the cardboard derby in a race between the stations for bragging rights. Also at the end of the photo gallery we see pictures of the winners receiving their prizes, pictures of the staff that put together the derby and the final winning team that is going to
Aruba.

Howard Stern and CBS in The News

In what seems to be a last ditch effort by CBS to capitalize on Howard Stern and his very edgy radio show. The company filed a lawsuit against Stern on Tuesday for approximately $200 million dollars for a breach of his contract with CBS and his move to Sirius Satellite Radio. In details of the lawsuit it claims that “Stern improperly used his syndicated morning show on CBS to plug his satellite radio show, and that Stern discussed his plans with Sirius without disclosing them to CBS as required under his contract”(Contra Costa Times). When Stern was asked about the recent lawsuit he “charged that CBS was trying to “bully” him with a lawsuit that results from a “personal vendetta” against him by CBS chief executive officer Leslie Moonves. Stern said CBS officials knew of his plans to leave for Sirius and also condoned his on-air references to satellite radio”. Overall CBS not only wants just Stern to pay for “any financial benefits” that not he received but also his agent Don Buchwald and Sirius from using CBS radio’s air time to promote Sirius”.

In my opinion I believe that CBS had all rights to go ahead and file a lawsuit against Stern for breaching his contract and using their air time to promote Sirius satellite radio because what he did could possible be seen by the FCC as plugola another form of payola, where instead of receiving money or gifts to push music as in the case of Payola. Plugola is done with advertising time between the DJ and a particular company(s) to try and boost sales with out every having the company legally sign contracts and purchase advertising time on a particular station well the DJ is getting a kickback under the table for doing so, which could be safe to say that Stern was doing because in the end he ended up with a contract and show on Sirius. Although the lawsuit filed by CBS doesn’t come as a shock to me especially right now with the attorney general Elliot Spitzor tarring apart the radio and record companies for Payola. After all, with all of these investigations going on right now it’s almost safe to say that CBS did this to cover themselves for when Elliot Spitzor decides that tearing apart the radio business for payola isn’t enough and moves on to investigating plugola.

Ethan Allen Insurance

After the Ethan Allen tragedy last fall you could almost bet that in time the issue of insurance coverage would be raised. According to a report in the Times Union on Wednesday February 22nd, 2006. The Ethan Allen owners had “allegedly declined to purchase an insurance liability policy for the vessel and other boats in their fleet”(Times Union). But because their was no actual policy in place “that would have set aside money for the victims or their families means that the boat’s owners, employees and any other companies that may have made modifications to the vessel now will be targeted for damages, according to attorneys involved”"(Times Union).

In my opinion the company that owns the Ethan Allen cruise ship was stupid to not carry any insurance. The first thing that should be asked in this case is they are a commercial company why didn’t they have insurance almost all commercial business have to carry insurance for the following cases if one of their employees gets hurt or if someone who is doing business at their particular office gets hurt they have to be able to compensate them in some sort of way. Second how can the state of New York allow the owners of the Ethan Allen allow them to run their business with out first making sure they have insurance. Third I think they should be penalized by the state for not carrying insurance and that they should have to handle all the damages that happened on their own with out putting the blame on someone else.

Valentines Day

With Valentines Day being a day to express love and happiness for your significant other. “Words of love [can] appeal to all”(The Daily Gazette 2/14/06 pg A7). Many people from around the country are not only purchasing candy and flowers for that special someone, but they are also purchasing cards that show how much love they have for them and according to hallmark that love seems to universal and the same where ever you go. Results from a resent survey that Hallmark carried out shows that the “V330-5 one of the thousands of options that Hallmark offered last year was [the] top choice of consumers in New York and Los Vegas”.(The Daily Gazette 2/14/06 A7).

In my opinion who really cares about Valentines Day and how many of a particular card are being purchased. Although it can be seen as fascinating that many people would purchase the same card and give it to the person they really love. In my opinion Valentines Day is highly over rated and is just another way for the card, chocolate and flower industry to improve business for a few days out of the year.

Cartoon’s (World News)

What was soppose to be considered to sum as a funny way to express their opinion in cartoon form over many political issues. Has caused many deadly protests in the mulism world due to the reason that musliums are ”against the publication of cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad in Western newspapers” (Times Union) . The cartoonsthat orignally appeared where “published in September by a Danish paper,[and]…..have since been reprinted by other media mostly in Europe”(Times Union) .

Thus “the Muslims have been outraged because Islamic tradition bars any depiction of the prophet to prevent idolatry. Under Pakistani laws, insulting the prophet or Islam’s holy book, the Quran, can be punished by death” (Times Union) .

In my opinon I do not see it as wrong to make a cartoon out of a political issues especially if it is making you think about the particular topic at hand. Although the protestors have a right to argue against it they should not be burning flags and killing people over political cartoons.
